Which salt is used as a dehydrating agent for removing the moisture from
the gases?
Calcium chloride (CaCl2) is used for removing
moisture from gases because it is a hygroscopic solid, which means that the solid absorbs water from the gases without dissolving in it. Since it absorbs moisture and yet remains a solid, it is used for removing moisture from gases.
The gas can be pass through a drying tube filled with anhydrous salt such as calcium chloride(CaCl2), sodium sulphate (Na2SO4), magnesium sulphate (MgSO4) and can also be bubbled through concentrated sulphuric acid(H2SO4). CaCl2 is strongly hygroscopic (absorbs water from its surroundings), thus making it dryer.
